Barbara Warren-Smith O.A.M.
Barbara commenced her training at Ballet Guild (later known as Ballet Victoria) under the direction of Ms Laurel Martyn. Over a period of twelve years study, Barbara won two scholarships and completed a six-year classical professional training course before deciding on a commercial dance career. During her performing career, Barbara worked on all television networks, with a variety of talented choreographers and directors, and eventually turned to choreography herself. She had a long and successful career with the National Nine Network working on all the top rating variety programs. Barbara’s career is varied: A judge on ‘New Faces’ and ‘That’s Dancing’; choreographer of fashion parades, national and international touring acts, television programs, commercials and mini-series’. She worked for 26 years at the VCA Secondary School and tertiary programs, and is State Choreographer for the Australian Girls Choir and has toured internationally with them many times over her 21 years with them. She continues to teach freelance jazz dance classes in Melbourne at classical ballet and performing arts schools. Barbara was recently awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for Service to the Performing Arts.
